The Bury Black Pudding Company

Black Pudding first arrived in the UK via European monks, who named the product 'blutwurst' which translates to 'Blood Sausage'. They first visited Yorkshire before making the trip over the Pennines to settle in Lancashire where this wonderful product became known as "Black Pudding". Founded by Debbie Pierce, Bury Black Pudding have won gold medals with their traditional recipe which dates back over 100 years.

The Bury Black Pudding Company's Story

Founded by Debbie Pierce, Bury Black Pudding are the only manufacturer of black pudding based in Bury. Bury Black Pudding has one of the longest-established stalls on Bury's world-famous market, with generations of families coming to buy their famous black puddings. The same black puddings can also be found in all major supermarkets and other retail outlets.

Debbie Pierce began working on her local market at the young age of 12 as a Saturday girl and spotted a gap in the market for a quality black pudding on supermarket shelves. She became a business partner with Richard Morris, who had taken over his father’s black pudding business, where he had spent his teenage years working.

Over the years, the business has grown significantly and is committed to offering local job opportunities, including taking on apprentices and teaching them skills in the food manufacturing industry.
